Energy-saving potential of cool roofs at the urban scale: A case study of Xiamen city
[PDF]
Chengcheng Song, Yixing Chen*
Energy and Buildings, 2025. (JCR Q1, IF=7.1)
This work develops an urban building energy modeling (UBEM) framework that integrates actual roof reflectance data from satellite imagery to evaluate the energy-saving potential and economic viability of cool roof retrofits in Xiamen, China. It quantifies energy and peak load reductions for various cool roof technologies and identifies cost-effective buildings for retrofits. |

CityEL: A web-based platform to support city-scale building energy efficiency based on AutoBPS
[PDF]
Chengcheng Song, Jingjing Yang, Zhiyuan Wang, Ruoheng Li, Xiufeng Pang, Yixing Chen*
Sustainable Cities and Society, 2025. (JCR Q1, IF=12.0)
CityEL (City Energy Lab) is a web-based platform for urban building energy efficiency. Unlike traditional UBEM tools, it focuses on rapid modeling and neighborhood-scale analysis, using GIS and AutoBPS to streamline energy benchmarking, retrofit evaluation, and cost analysis.

Developing urban building energy models for shanghai city with multi-source open data
[PDF]
Chengcheng Song, Zhang Deng, Wenxian Zhao, Yue Yuan, Mengyue Liu, Shen Xu, Yixing Chen*
Sustainable Cities and Society , 2024. (JCR Q1, IF=12.0)
This work integrates open data to model Shanghai's building energy use, covering 609,000 footprints. Using machine learning, 63 building prototypes were classified with 95% accuracy, and energy simulations aligned with benchmarks. The approach improves urban energy modeling for sustainability planning. |
